Preventive Medicine

I hope everyone had a good weekend. Today I wanted to talk about a little preventive medicine. You have probally all heard of Proanthocyanidin (PCO)---well sure you have!!
PCO is a natural plant bioflavonoid extracted from the seeds of grapes. PCO is also known as Pycnogenol, and this potent bioflavonoid is so essential to you existence that it should be considered a vitamin, because our bodies cannot make it and we cannot survive without it. Its healing and preventive benefits are simply phenomenal. It has been used in France for more than 40 years but has only recently been discovered by Americans. PCO has been found to be the most potent antioxidant ever discovered. It is 20 times more potent than Vitamin C and 50 times more potent that Vitamin E. It is also antiinflammatory, anti-allergic, and anit-mutagenic. PCO bioflavonoids are found in the peels, skins and seeds of fruits and vegetables and the barks of certain trees, including the lemon tree, The French maritime pine tree and the leaves of the leaves of the hazelnut tree. Grape Seed Extract yields a 95% concentration of PCO, the highest of any source. Pine bark is second, with an 85% concentration.
PCO bioflavonoids have a specific affinity for the connective tissue (collagena nd elastin) of the body, providing stabilization and protecti8on from premature breakdown. When you eat them they become incorporated into the connective tissues of your skin, blood vessels, joints and cell membranes. They protect your body from free radical damage. Free radicals are produced from oxygen metabolism with the body and from exposure to certain chemicals, environmental pollutants, sunlight, radiation burns, cigarett smoke, drug, alcohol, viruses, bacteria, parasites, dietary fats, and more.
Free radicals destroy cell membranes, damage collagen and other connective tissues, disrupt important physiologic processes and create mutations in the DNA of cells. They are implicated in more thatn 60 diseases, including heart disease, hardening of the arteries, arthritis, Alzheimer's disease, cataracts and cancer. Free radicals are oxygen molecules with a missing or unpaired electron which spin erratically throughout the body, damaging every tissue they bounce into until they are finally quenched by an antioxidant such as vitamin C or E, beta-carotene, bioflavonoids, or certain exzymes produced by the body. As we grow older, the body's inherent production of free radical deactivating enzymes decreases. As this happens, the skin becomes leathery and wrinkled, arteries lose their elasticity, joints and cartilage stiffen, vision becomes cloudy, the spine becomes stooped, and every part of the body gradually deteriorates. PCO prevents the cross-linking of the body tissues that is associated with aging. It blocks connective tissue-destroying enzymes that otherwise would have a cumulative thinning and weakening effect on the body's connective tissue over time.
Grape Seed Extract is the most potent preventive nutrient you can buy. It can prevent the cross-linking of your connective tissue, promote new collagen and elastin production and slow down or reverse the biological process of aging to help prevent heart disease, cancer, strokes, diabetes, cataracts, glaucoma, arthritis, allergies, wrinkles, cellulite and more.
Well like I said before I am not a doctor or scientist and if you would like to read more on the subject, look for Clark Hansen, N.M.D. at your local library.
Until tomorrow--food for thought---
It takes less muscles to smile than to frown!!!!
Thanks for visiting.
